OMI needed to create 50 Hz power in their US-based manufacturing facility for overseas product testing.

OMI Industries is a leading developer of safe and effective industrial odor management solutions for a wide variety of applications. Their proprietary Ecosorb® odor eliminator neutralizes smells by breaking down and removing a broad spectrum of organic and inorganic odors. They have a worldwide demand for their products with foreign shipments going to Asia and South America.

In these countries, the only utility power available is 50 Hz, and since the only utility power available here in the U.S. is 60 Hz, OMI needed to create 50 Hz power in their manufacturing facility to test their products prior to shipment. The Horlick Model 50SC-153M that they purchased is designed to convert 460V, 3-phase, 60 Hz to 400V, 3-phase, 50 Hz and it provides 15 KW of power. It is exactly what OMI required to fully test their odor control chemical dispersal equipment and pumps prior to shipment.

“All of our questions were answered, the website provided a lot of quality information, and the Horlick engineering staff was very thorough,” said Ron Mulford, Equipment Division Manager at OMI Industries. “The system worked beautifully, just as intended. It exceeds our expectations. We made the best choice going with Horlick and we would recommend Horlick to anyone who requires this kind of system.”

Horlick 50SC Model motor generator sets utilize a 4-pole, 1800 RPM, induction motor to drive a 4-pole, 1500 RPM synchronous generator through a V-belt drive system. They are Horlick’s standard industrial offering for end-users who require a 50 Hz power source in their facility.

“50SC Model motor generator sets are rated for continuous duty and they provide manufacturers a clean source of 50 Hz power”, said Shawn Hennessey, at the time Horlick’s Vice-President of Engineering. “They are most commonly utilized to test electrical equipment designed for the foreign export market.”
