Horlick conforms to applicable safety and manufacturing standards as it relates to the construction of Motor Generator Sets and Control Panels.
The following is a list of the standards that the Horlick Company follows and subscribes to as a minimum:
UL 508A is an industrial control panel directive widely used and accepted worldwide. A UL 508A mark on an industrial control panel provides evidence to an inspecting authoritative body that the control panel has been certified to an approved third party standard. The UL 508A standard sets the design, construction and safety related performance requirements for an industrial electrical control panel. The UL 508A mark may be applied to a wide variety of designs ranging from those that are highly customized to those that are standardized with only minor variations. UL is one of the trusted sources across the globe for product safety and compliance. Benefiting a range of customers – from manufacturers and retailers to consumers and regulating bodies – UL has tested products from public safety for more than a century.
Horlick is a certified UL 508A panel shop.
UL 698A is similar to UL 508A in that it is a control panel directive. UL 698A in particular is a certification that pertains to industrial control panels intended for general industrialuse and installation in unclassified locations with intrinsically safe circuit extensions into Class I, II and III Division 1 and 2 locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70. The industrial control panels covered by these requirements are assemblies consisting of components such as motor controllers, overload relays, fused disconnect switches, and/or circuit breakers and related control devices such as pushbutton stations, selector switches, pilot lights, and the like with associated wiring terminals. In all cases, the enclosure is provided as part of the assembly.

UL NNNY is an industrial control panel directive for the building and assembly of industrial control panels for use in hazardous locations. Horlick Company has undergone the rigorous testing and certification requirements of UL to be a manufacturer of custom-built panels for hazardous locations. This certification allows us to build both explosion-proof and/or purged and pressurized (Type X and Y) industrial control panels to be located within Class I, Division 1 environments. It also allows us to build nonincendive and/or purged and pressurized (Type Z) industrial control panels to be located within Class 1, Division 2 environments. The UL (NNNY) listing mark placed on the industrial panel provides assurance that the panel can safely be located in the designated hazardous location, and that the construction will have the appropriate features and provisions to prevent ignition of the hazardous gases that may be present.

NFPA 79 is the electrical standard for industrial machinery. It is the benchmark for industrial machinery safety. NFPA 79 provides safeguards for industrial machinery to protect operators, equipment, facilities, and work-in-progress from fire and electrical hazards. NFPA 79 addresses requirements that apply to electrical/electronic equipment, apparatus, or systems supplied as part of industrial machines operating from a nominal voltage of 600 volts or less, and commencing at the point of connection of the supply to the electrical equipment of the machine.

NFPA 70E is the standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace. NFPA 70E requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards. NFPA 70E provisions encompass safety-related work practices, safety-related maintenance requirements, and safety requirements for special equipment. The standard includes guidance for hazard making identification and risk assessments, selecting appropriate PPE, establishing an electrically safe work condition, and employee training.
Horlick follows the standards put forth in NFPA 70E.
The CE mark on a product or machine identifies it as complying with all of the safety requirements established by the European Union. The CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable European community directives particularly with respect to safety standards. CE is often taken to be an abbreviation of “Conformité Européenne”, meaning “European Conformity” and it ensures that the manufacturer has carried out certain well-defined steps prior to shipment. These steps include a conformity assessment, developing a comprehensive electrical technical file, and most importantly a signed EC declaration of conformity. Upon request, Horlick can fabricate equipment that conforms to the Machinery Directive 2006-42-EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2006-95-EC, along with the standards listed below:
